Classroom Jobs

I've shared my list of leadership roles that the students in my classroom have. You can see my list here.

So, after seeing this huge list you're probably wondering what some of these are. So here's a quick run down of each job. 

Breakfast Buddy- Goes to the lunchroom in the morning to help younger students open things and clean up after breakfast.

Greeter- Greets people who enter our classroom. Just walk up and say hello and welcome to our classroom.

Tour Guide- When we have special guests in the school, tour guides take them on a tour of our school.

Capri Sun- Our school recycles Capri Sun pouches and students help with this process.

Recycling- Empty classroom recycle bin

Classroom Board- Updates all classroom boards and calendar.

RAK Leader- Random Acts of Kindness leader helps facilitate RAKs our class does.

Computer Lab- Gives hand sanitizer as we enter and takes up ear buds when we leave.

Library- Helps put books back on the shelf and anything else the librarian needs.   

iPad- Makes sure all iPads are accounted for and plugs them in at the end of the day.

Safety- Helps make sure walkways are clear of binders, jackets, and trash.

Communications- Runners who take things to other teachers in the building.

Attendance- Take attendance every morning and lets me know who is absent.

PE- Helps PE coach and even goes in to help K students tie shoes.

Environmental- Cleans up and empties trash cans at the end of the day.

Lunchroom- Lines up students to go to lunch, carries bucket to the lunchroom with extra forks, ketchup, etc. 

Lunch Count- Writes lunch choices on the board and writes the count on a slip to deliver to the lunchroom each morning. Also takes any lunch money to the lunchroom.

Phone- Answers the phone.

Music- We listen to Pandora a lot so this students starts our music.

Tech- Helps with any tech in the classroom. Very helpful when we have a sub.

Paper- Hands back graded papers and other things that need to be sent home.

Sign/Door- We have a Where Are We sign that must be changed when we leave and the door must be closed and locked when we leave. 

Lamp- I have a lot of classroom lamps so this student turns them on in the morning and off in the afternoon.

Desk Inspector- We switch classes and nothing can be left in the desk. This student makes sure nothing is left behind.

Behavior Monitor- Helps monitor behavior in hallway.

Cart Manager- Our classroom has 6 carts with tissue, paper towels, notebook paper, wipes, post it notes, index cards, and hand sanitizer. This student restocks anything that is missing. 

Find Your Voice/Morning Meeting- Find Your Voice is like Show and Tell for big kids. These students look at our Google doc that lists the students who have signed up to share and gets the process going. They also lead morning meeting on Wednesday.

Time Keeper- This student sets a timer any time we need it. This is very helpful when going to lockers or packing up in the afternoon.

Pencil- Makes sure pencils are out and sharpened.

Walkie Talkie- We have to take this to recess each day. This student makes sure I don't forget it. 

Week 35- Finished Testing & George Washington QR Codes w/7 Habits

This week we finally finished taking the ASPIRE tests! We were all happy to have that behind us.

In social studies this week our focus was on George Washington. My students used a QR code to access a website about Washington. They used the information from that site to fill in their flip book in the SS interactive notebook.

Each group worked together to find important facts to add to their flip books.

Then every group made post it notes for our poster about how Washington used the 7 Habits. 

The next day we completed a Venn diagram about George Washington and King George III and how they each used the habits. 

On Wednesday, they used another QR code to access the Rules of Civility that Washington had to copy as a student. My students picked 3 rules and wrote them in words so other students could understand what they mean. They also had to explain how each fit into a habit.

This is the project I shared last week! In case you missed it I'll give a quick overview. I printed pictures of my students working together in our classroom. Each group worked together to write a paragraph and one student typed it. Then another student used the iPad to record the paragraph and create a QR code that visitors can scan and hear them read the paragraph. 

Week 30- Fraction Review, 3D Shapes, & Leadership Day

This week we started with a review of fractions. Each table played a game as a team. Every table worked the problems and could "steal" the points if the table who selected the problem had the wrong answer. I loved seeing my students synergize and help each other find the mistakes they made. 

The Fraction Review Game Show, found on TpT, was a great resource and my kids were excited to solve the problems. 

Then we used QR code task cards to learn about 3D shapes. I gave each table a set of cards and they took turns scanning the code to learn about several shapes. Each student had their own chart to complete and add to their math interactive notebook.

This week we spent time preparing for our Leadership Day. Each grade level sang at our assembly and then there were student lead tours. Some students stood in the hallway to share with visitors about how we are using the 7 habits. Others shared their leadership notebooks.

This is the 5th grade display where the students wrote about their favorite habit. 

We have been making video newsletters and this is our first one with the green screen. 

I recorded our students singing our song for the MES Leadership Day. Thought I'd add the lyrics so you can sing along with us!

Week 23- Leader in Me & Kid President Inspired Videos

This week we had a bunch of visitors at our school from the Leader in Me Symposium. This is 

a picture of us wearing our Leadership & choir shirts.

I thought I'd share some pictures from around our school building. We have our testing data displayed. The 5th grade has graphed test averages for math and reading.

We also have display cases in the front hallway. After we focus on a habit we add things to the display cases.

This is also located in the front hallway.

Across from there we have the school improvement wall. We have things posted like percent absences and discipline referrals. 

Quotes to Lead by is the display of favorite quotes from all the faculty and staff.

Right across the hall is the grade level display for the current habit. This is where each grade level displays some of the student work that includes the habits.

We also have a board for our WIGS.

These cute people also have the habits listed in the hall. We are super leaders so these super kids fit right in. 

This is a table 2 of my students set up. They had samples to share with the visitors.

This week in class we started my favorite science unit, chemistry! So I couldn't wait to do the first demonstration. The students observed properties of two clear liquids. When I mixed them together the turned into a solid. Informed it into a ball and they bounced it back and forth to each other..

Everyone had a chance to feel and bounce it on the table.

Once we were finished I put it in a bag and we checked back in that afternoon. The kids were amazed to find it had flattened out and it took the shape of the bag.

For the Digital Day of Learning we made a padlet to brainstorm ways to make our class more awesome. They used iPads and posted their ideas to the padlet. Once they were finished we made a video! Want to see them? Each class made a video. The students put it together using iMovie.

Week 19- Think Win-Win

This week we worked on fractions. The kids played a go fish game of fractions. Before playing, they had to reduce the fractions so they would know what to ask for when playing. We didn't make it past reducing the fractions but next week we'll try again.






Our school is also in the first year of becoming a Leader in Me school. Each teacher submitted their favorite quote along with a photo. The Lighthouse team created this display in the hallway outside the library. I love looking at the different quotes and the kids love it as well! I noticed several of them stopping to read the quote and look at the pictures this week.



We talked about habit 4: Think Win-Win. So today we did a little activity to practice! I grouped the students and they had to stand side by side with their feet touching. Then they had to come up with a way to move around the desks without letting their feet come apart. Most groups came up with a plan and they were able to complete the task. A few had to start over but everyone was thinking win-win.



STUDENTS: This week I asked you to pick one habit to focus on and come up with a plan of action. Share the habit you are working on and what you plan to do. When you list the habit make sure to list the habit number and explain what that habit means.

I am working on Think Win-Win. Since this habit talks about your emotional bank account I'm leaving positive post it notes on student work in the hallway throughout the building. One younger student came up to me this week and she was so excited that I had left a "good job" note on her work in the hallway. She was smiling from ear to ear! I know I was able to make a deposit into her emotional bank account!
